Creating the Monster - Georgina Woo (2024)

"The monster's face will be a pit of teeth and eyes"
was the original pitch. The eyes got vetoed because physiologically, eyes in a mouth would get a little too messy. Those became little flesh nodules instead.
I didn't want a human face on the monster, so I planned to make a false face that sat in front of the performer's head – attached to a helmet, with gauze between the opening of the mask and the face, so that the performer could see out but others could not see in.

The pit of teeth was only to be revealed later on, so a false mask sat on top of the "true face".

I modeled the true face in Blender as I had specific dimensions in mind that I wanted to 3D print.
The mask had to be partitioned into 4 parts to be printed at the correct size.
The teeth are also 3D printed, and the inner walls of the mouth is made up of a bottom layer of clay, and a coating of flour and glue. For the extra fleshy feel.
Painting - if I had more time I would have used a glossy finish instead.
The false mask was made out of foam, and attached to the headpiece with velcro. Extra eyeholes were added for better visibility for the performer.
Show photos below. The hands are tulle gloves with 3D printed claws and spikes.
